Staley and JV Dogs Go Down to the Wire

October 13, 2016

What a game!!

JV traveled to Staley to get redemption on those pesky Falcons!!

We were scoreless at the end of the 1st quarter as both defenses played extremely well throughout the entire game.  The Falcons converted on a long pass after our Defensive Back fell, and they converted the extra point.  7-0 Falcons.

Our offense was able to put together a drive but ended up stalling out inside Staley’s territory with 1:30 minutes left in the half.  As the Falcons attempted to score before half, Matthew Witthar created a turnover that was recovered by Jonathan Bradfield with just 16 seconds left before half time.

We were able to score on a deep post route from Dakota Ahmu to Brady Monks w/ no time left on the clock, but failed on the extra point.  7-6 Falcons.

As both teams were gridlocked in the 3rd quarter, Staley ended up scoring a TD and went up 14-6 over the Bulldogs… However; we never backed down…  Our team continued to “chop wood” as Coach Jones likes to say!  Our defense got the football back with just 3 minutes left in the game!  Our offense created a 55 yard drive and scored with 1:11 left in the game on a 2 yard run by Craig Wolpert!  Down by 8, we had to go for a 2 point conversion, and Dakota Ahmu connected once again to Brady Monks for a successful try!  14-14 w/ 1:11 left on the clock.

Staley attempted to drive the field consuming much of the clock and our defense created a turn over on downs and w/ some timely used timeouts…  We got the ball back w/ 16 seconds left on our own 35 yard line.

Our very first offensive play Dakota Ahmu connected ONCE AGAIN to Brady Monks on a screen pass that Brady took all the way down to Staley’s 2 yard line w/ 5 seconds left; we used our LAST timeout!  With the football placed on the right hash, Coach Daniels strongly encourage that we kick the field goal.

Tyndale Evans trotted out to the field w/ the fans screaming like crazy, and the bulldog sideline tried to silence the crowd to no avail…  As we lined up, Staley jumped offsides which created that dreadful time where we worry about the mental toughness of a kicker w/ the game lying on Tyndale’s right foot, a Blake Weakley snap, and a Brady Monks hold!  After the officials reset the ball, after the Staley Falcons attempted to cheat…  Snap, Hold, Kick…  it was a executed to perfection!!!

Kearney 17 Staley 14, after trailing the ENTIRE game we were able to score 11 points in 3 minutes.  With 3 seconds left on the clock our special teams and defense had to keep them out of the end zone…  And they did just that!!
